Officer Negative Presents: The Death Campaign Project

The Death Campaign was definitely a unique listen. The albums artwork gives the potential listener an idea of what they’d be getting into. What has been recorded is a shotgun blast intertwined cacophony of punk, black metal and at least three different vocal styles. In this case the lyric booklet is mandatory unless you just like hearing them scream and yell. There’s enough dry throated vocals that when the death growls and piercing wails come you’ll be begging for some holy water.

Lyrics deal with dark forces down below the surface, hungering for a warm embrace while holding onto the cold shadows of the needed. The Palpable Illusion briefly goes into vintage Morbid Angel territory almost out of nowhere. There are lots of classical piano and keyboard soothing the otherwise harsh and raspy terrain. This CD proves you can make music that sounds ugly to the average listener incorporating Goth and gloom, add some heaviness and still be able to worship God. There is a great musical disorganization in some songs that sounds weird. Almost sewn together but still makes sense.

The instrumental Reality of Emptiness puts you in a funeral line waiting to pay final respects with emotions, the hesitation of being that close to an empty shell and it’s pasty white perfections then walking away into your own quiet corner of cold console.
