The Persevering Promise An Illusion in Shambles

The Persevering Promise An Illusion in Shambles

Post-hardcore band The Persevering Promise has swept the country opening eyes and ears to their version of the screaming sometimes beautifully sung sounds of Matt Hoos and the melodic/screeching voices of Jesse Barton and Hampton Amos. On their Pavement Entertainment release An Illusion in Shambles the post punk guitars carry plenty of crunch (all three of them) and the screams carry passionate pleas as the gang vocals and key vocal harmonies offer a catchy bounce partner.

It’s Only the Beginning starts with a creepy instrumental exploration through a haunted house opening old creaky doors as ghosts and spirits run and hide in the dark corners whispering through the cobwebs awakening the band about a minute in.   A Reason To Believe (ft Ronnie Winter) has galloping drums and a good shared amount of singing and screaming. Some things just have to be expressed the loud way. Beware the temptations and games of sweet Annabel. Etherality, almost an instrumental barring the strong wave of cries near the end, slowly starts building guitar notes with feelings of hope and courage running the long distance marathon of life and its many emotional lessons and pitfalls.

The Death Of All Things Pure, one of the heavier songs carries a little more frenzied agony in the screams and is also the shortest and one of the records most powerful performances.
