Them Damn Kings Slam With New Single Shown With A Fist

The one-man Jersey bred and born music project has fuel, has fire and what he desires. Especially some influence from ‘90s Metallica and Reload. The beginning of new single and lyric video for “Shown With A Fist” sounds and feels like a throwback to the fueled ‘tallica riff and that’s not a bad thing. With clean vocals that cross territory between L.A. Guns and Ministry. The lyric video shows creator/musician Jef Rhodes strapped to a hog with hair blowing cruising down the endless tunnel of light into the unknown. Half-through it takes a humorous, ‘90s Mortal Kombat turn to dueling guitars and literally riding the lighting, with decapitating results.

Rhodes is the sound and creativity behind the tune as well as many others of his career. With two decades of studio and touring experience, he’s definitely seen some long bright and dark roads. Opeth, Cradle of Filth, Watain, Mayhem and Lacuna Coil are a few of the bands he’s worked with.

His debut album Rise Up with Lacuna Coil’s Ryan Blake Folden on skins dropped in 2022.  Rhodes has at least three videos in social media circulation, including the muddy, grungy, “Yesterday” with Jerry Cantrell meeting Zakk Wylde in a moody, dark video with a touch of Southern Trendkill.

With “The Pill” experiencing the dark, woozy effects of a madhouse, with the camera experiencing the ‘kick in’ when side-effects hit. It’s one weary and off balance cuckoo staggering around the nest. There’s even a hidden gem to be found in his version of “Sunshine of Your Love,” played in a style that ironically mirrored an origin where it constantly rained. Talking about soaking up and draining all the happiness and warmth from a tune with sunshine and love in the title. But it’s still heavy and cool as fuck, so he gets a current Pantera guitarist pass.

You can’t beat the cover either, with the horned beast, chained and in smoky rapture. “Shown With A Fist” is a good introduction piece to his work and some YouTube research is well worth the time if you love ’90s Metallica, grunge, Alice in Chains and some BLS/modern Pantera.
