Lykantropi – Tales To Be Told

Swedish psychedelic folk rockers Lykantropi have released their new experience Tales To Be Told, their first record of all new material, written together based on classic forest folklore and traditional stories.

It’s a Swedish, trippy time warp back to the late shadows of the ‘60s and early ‘70s, when the last bits of the hippy trip could still be tongue tied into induced, enhanced inspirations. The band proves the music of the era is still powerful and seductive in terms of memories and influence with eight songs putting the listener back in the Woodstock field while hitting the pedal on ‘70s cult rock.

With distinctly haunting and addictive sounds they hit us with modern-nostalgia, decades before technology obsessed our screens and hands.

Songs weave whispers of sweet hippy history from The Mamas & The Papas and Joplin with electric strings and flutes, bridging the witchy vibes of cult rock with Jefferson Airplane and Blue Öyster Cult back to the digital day. As a group they found inspiration in their native wild wilderness surroundings from camp fire stories to what haunts and prowls behind the trees after dark.

Tales To Be Told is their third and first record of new material done as a group effort filling each song with collective energy.

“Coming Your Way” has a retro flute with jangling guitars as ghostly shadows flow through vocals. Kind of like a haunted peace sign for the ears. “Mother of Envy” almost has their version of a vintage Iron Maiden sound in the first 20 seconds giving off an unexpected heavy vibe.

“Kom ta mig ut” is a bit more calm and subtle even slightly hinting at Skynyrd with a duet summoning inner dreams, swirling in a cloud of abstract inspiration above them.

“Spell on Me” is a boot trottin’ rocker, with a bit more attitude shaking in the music. Tales To Be Told is a new dose of vintage history. A romantic lesson of decades past to younger ears and pleasant new memories to those that lived them.

Lykantropi have carried the torch of music that helped built the foundation to what we have today but don’t call it a throwback, call it modern talent channeling the classic spirits of fallen hero’s, the continuation of folk and the start of rock and metal.
