Recently Dortmund cranked out the sophomore ritual by thrashers Bonded. | If you’re not familiar with the name, metalheads will appreciate the headbanging pedigree including ex-Sodom’s Bernd “Bernemann” Kost on guitar, Markus Freiwald drums, ex-Suicidal Angels Chris Tsitsis, bassist Marc Hauschild and Ingo Bajonczak (Assassin).
Their first bonding resulted in 2020’s Rest in Violence album. Spurning videos for “Suit Murderer” a killing concept against corporate America and lyric video for “Rest in Violence” featuring Overkill’s Bobby “Blitz” Ellsworth. “Into The Blackness Of A Wartime Night” was the first single released for new and familiar ears from the Blackness. It’s part of a four-song war-themed story inspired by the novel “The Division of the Damned by Richard Rhys Jones. Their logo even reeks of a wartime night looking like an acidic-decaying modern manifestation of Sargent D. The newest video “Lilith (Queen of Blood)” is a spellbinding/casting splattered reflection of spiritual warfare, summoning the dark succubus. |
| Blackness flows with “The Arsonist” as a smashing, ramming opener. Starting the initial fire on guitar, with blazing riffs to scorch the earth and ears within.
With no room to breathe ”Watch (While the World Burns) starts right after with head bashing riffs, growling into oblivion. A head punching, elbow in the pit bruise maker, the metal equivalent to an MMA kiss to the cheek. With old school riffs ripping into action with drums just as rough. Harsh vocal melodies peak a pitch higher than expected into a moshpit ready and willing. “Lilith” (Queen of Blood) is a visual calling card to the dark otherworldly figure complete with ceremonial candles, mirror, blood and slicing riffs. While “The Holy Whore” is consumed with Exodus style riffage and tempo for the damned. “Il-Minded Freak” could be the album’s sleeper with its sick, deranged riffs and note play. Making the guitars sound like a mentally unstable demented sick f–k and deviant. It’s metal with melancholy and tailor-made for it in a unique nod to “Dead Skin Mask.” Whether you’re a fan of the original violence or a new disciple to their version of thrash, Bonded bring the goods and in their own way, are bonded by blood.
