Anarcheon – Scary Tale

Anarcheon – Scary Tale

Vancouver’s vampiric valets to the heavy and musically macabre, Anarcheon have released their new story-telling EP Scary Tale A three-song effort narrating the blood lust fueled tale of a familiar waiting for her dark lover to turn her with horrific, violent results.

The creepy, groovy brood, take their lyrics describing the change from luring lady to savage beast. Seduced by the idea/fantasy of spending eternity with her supposed immortal beloved, after being bit, morphing into an insatiable creature, blinded  by blood lust and murder. Six years old in the mortal world, they’ve adopted both anarchy and Dr. Frankenstein’s modus operandi creating sounds, borrowing from each member’s background, influences and abilities.

They have two EP’s and three singles out so far. In a year that celebrated the return of living, breathing mortals back in public assembly, teeth are pointed and ready to spread a much predatory and nocturnal virus.

Vocalist Kaija Kinney sports a vocal range from clean vox, to crooning, screeching, screaming and growling. Guitarist Clayton Bach, bassist Sylvain Maltais and drummer Steve “Machine” Richardo provide the succubus musical score adding metal noise to the narrative nightmare.

A few videos are already released including lyric video “Blood Merry” a creepy B&W performance piece with lyrics popping up like graffiti styled chalk outlines.

Whether intentional or not, “Etherous Claws” has a very cinematic, ‘80s, sacrificial vibe transporting back in time, mixed with performance footage. The concept piece has a vintage allure, with show footage looking shot for a horror movie.

While 2020’s “Headless Horseman” video carry’s a more, punkish, heavier, hardcore vibe.
Newest offering “Transyldrania” features a dinner party of only the freshest killed meat and freshly squeezed sustenance.

It’s horror-based music scribed with scarlet rage dripping from a feathered pen with metaphorical imagery and a video making humans for dinner. An interesting mix of metal mashed together under the moonlight, after the crypts open and a midnight meeting of modern Arch Enemy spellbound by the vintage sounds, spells and visuals of Mercyful Fate.

“Transyldrania” boasts a lyrical definition and sales pitch of the best parts and points of immortality. Life is fragile and limited so come to the eternal unshackled darkness. The opening roller-coaster ride of spellcasting bass lines and loud, fast, angry seduction stretches out from the realm of death.

“Vlad To The Bone” is a story of manipulation, kinky practices and blood related games between two children of the night. The dominatrix makes subject and pet slave and lover. A conflict of emotions and guitars washes into a bad romance motivated by intense blood rush.

“Scary Tale” is a narrative cast in the 1600s, told modern day. What started as love through seduction turns into a cold-eyed predator, as love and compassion is destroyed. A more somber beginning laced with poetic vocals, croaking at times transforming to unsettling words and gripping growls to agony laced scowls. There’s melancholy in the notes and delivery as vocals screech like a bat awakened at high noon sounding like an unholy union of Raven Black and Mudvayne.

Since 2016 they’ve invaded stages at Metalocalypstick Fest and Loud As Hell among others. They’ve shared blasting decibels with Nervosa, The Agonist, Butcher Babies and a headbanging list of brutal brethren. Come listen to some scary tales from the cold artic north.
