Members of Five Iron Frenzy bring you a new project of both stellar message and music. Astro-rock and space pop are the new lingo used for this Brave Saint Saturn (Tooth & Nail Records) album of a space age story that both glorifies and pays homage to fallen heroes, whether on earth or in the heavens.
The CD jacket tells a story of the USS Gloria and her five man crew on a three year mission to boldly go where no man has gone before and study Saturn and its moons. The CD contains sound clips of ground control receiving a message of a gas explosion and the loss of contact with the crew. Many of the songs deal with the multi-emotional voyage of the trapped crew ranging from hope of a new light and new day to facing their darkest hours of helplessness in the sparkling heavens.
Other song themes are more down to earth such as Estrella, a 25 year old stricken with Neufibromatosis 2, which causes tumors to grow on the outer nervous system causing deafness, sight loss and numbness who died during an operation to remove a tumor. The band sings that we really have little to complain about compared to others less fortunate.
Many of the themes are dark and the lyrics and stories may be from another world.
